New York City by day is strong, sharp, and uncompromising. The nighttime photography seen in this exhibition offers a dreamy reality with softer lines, warmer colors, and architecture that is less physical and more evocative — opening an opportunity to see this city through the lens of your imagination, to see it in a different light. Originally from the Ukraine, where he received B.Arch. and M.Arch. degrees, Yuriy Chernets came to the U.S. to attend graduate school at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2008 and subsequently at Cornell University, where he graduated with a masters of architecture degree in 2014. Chernets is currently working at Perkins Eastman's New York City office. Having practiced in the Ukraine, U.S., and in China, he has worked on single- and multi-family housing, retail planning, in addition to corporate and higher education projects. While most of his time is spent in the field of architecture, Chernets's passion is digital photography. His primary interest is cityscapes and nighttime photography, though he also shoots events and portraits.
