Meejin Yoon + Eric Howeler: Fail Fast

Höweler + Yoon Architecture / MY Studio (HYA/MYS) is a multidisciplinary practice, operating in the space between architecture, art, and landscape. The practice believes in an embodied experience of architecture, seeing media as material and its effects as palpable elements of architectural speculation. While their work lies at the intersection of the conceptual and the corporeal, they are committed to both the practice-of and prospects-for architecture. Engaged in projects of all scales, they are interested in the material realities and material effects of their work, testing interactions between their constructs and the larger public. HYA/MYS’s multi-disciplinary projects include architecture, planning, interiors, installations, furniture, concept clothing, and artist books. HYA’s work is the subject of a recent monograph, Expanded Practice, Höweler + Yoon Architecture / MY Studio (Princeton Architectural Press 2009).

Eric Höweler is currently an assistant professor at the Harvard GSD. Prior to forming Höweler + Yoon Architecture, he was a senior designer at Diller + Scofidio and an associate principal at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. He is the author of Skyscraper: Vertical Now (Rizzoli/Universe Publishers 2003). Höweler received his B.Arch. and M.Arch. from Cornell AAP.

J. Meejin Yoon is an architect, designer, and educator. She is an associate professor at MIT and is the recipient of the United States Artist Award in Architecture/Design, the Athena RISD/Target Emerging Designer Award, the Rome Prize in Design, the Young Architects Award from the Architectural League, and a Fulbright Scholarship. She is the coauthor of Public Works: Unsolicted Small Projects for the Big Dig (MAP Book Publishers 2009) and author/designer of Absence (Printed Matter and the Whitney Museum of American Art 2003). Yoon received a B.Arch. from Cornell AAP with the AIA Henry Adams Medal and an M.Arch. in urban design with distinction from Harvard GSD.
