About this Event

http://mannlib.cornell.edu/events-exhibitsThis exhibit recognizes the power of art to inspire those who have suffered emotional and physical trauma to see their beauty and find their strength to live the lives they have always wanted. Volunteer thrivers and volunteer artists have collaborated to create works that celebrates the thriver who lives a full life beyond the experience of violence. "What is your favorite color? What makes you special? What is your favorite thing about yourself? Where do you want to be in 5 years? What brings you peace? What do you enjoy doing? What makes you smile? What are your ambitions?" Working together, thrivers and artists have considered these questions and created visual representations of the thoughts they have evoked. The artwork created expresses the unique value the thrivers have as human beings, striving to create an atmosphere in which individuals are recognized, supported and appreciated, and in which there is potential to use artistic expression as a source of healing.
We also recognize that in addition to providing an opportunity of healing and comfort, art has the power to raise awareness about the prevalence of assault and give the community an opportunity to better understand and support thrivers. This exhibit is sponsored by the Cornell Women’s Resource Center (CWRC). For more information, please visit http://westepintothelight.weebly.com/
