About this Event
232 East Ave, Central Campus
In this talk, Marilyn Migiel will discuss the current state of scholarship about Veronica Franco, a sixteenth-century Venetian writer and “honorable courtesan” (cortigiana onesta), author of a collection of poems in terza rima (Terze rime, 1575). She will highlight findings from her book, Veronica Franco in Dialogue (University of Toronto Press, 2022; winner of the MLA’s 2021 Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Publication Award for a Manuscript in Italian Literary Studies). She will also speak about her on-going research: a book in progress, co-authored with Irene Eibenstein-Alvisi, tentatively titled Power, Woman, Man, Memory, Art: Veronica Franco’s Praise of Villa della Torre, and an article in progress, co-authored with Giulia Andreoni (1st author) and Federica Bologna (2nd author), “Stylometric Identification of the Unknown Male Author in Veronica Franco’s Terze rime.”
