What's Going to Happen: we are going to display rare materials from the RMC collection pertaining to Walter Pater (1839-1904), a famous English essayist, art critic, and fiction writer, whose studies on the Italian Renaissance were taken by many as a manifesto (whether stimulating or subversive) of Aestheticism and Decadence. Among the items on display will be first editions of the writings of Pater, Oscar Wilde, Algernon Charles Swinburne, or Vernon Lee + art by Simeon Solomon + the famous "Kelmscott Chaucer" by William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones (1896). Also on display will be correspondence between Pater and Edward B. Titchener dating back to the time when the Cornell Professor of Psychology was a student at Oxford and pater was his private tutor (1885-90).
