Thriving With Your Spirited Child

Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County
615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca, New York 14850-3555

Learn about your child's temperament (and yours), how to develop effective strategies for dealing with temper tantrums, power struggles and other challenging behaviors in this FREE 7-week class series for parents and caregivers.

What makes a spirited child? The key word that distinguishes spirited children from other children is "more" - more intense, more persistent, more sensitive, and more uncomfortable with change. The spirited child can easily overwhelm parents, leaving them feeling frustrated and ineffective. Workshop will focus on helping parents and caregivers:

  • understand a child's temperamental traits,
  • identify cues leading up to challenging behavior,
  • cope with tantrums and blow-ups when they do occur,
  • develop strategies for reducing or eliminating power struggles (especially at mealtime, bedtime, dressing)

This FREE, 7-week workshop series is for parents and caregivers who want to learn how to effectively supportive and raise their spirited child(ren).

Learn how to understand a child's temperamental traits, identify clues leading up to challenging behaviors, cope with tantrums and blow-ups, and develop strategies for reducing or eliminating power struggles.

Workshop is led by trained facilitators Peter Dodge and Serena Ward and meets on (7) Tuesdays September 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, November 5, 2019 [Note: no one may join the class after October 1st]. Please call in advance for free childcare; space is limited. .
