The Social Media Test Drive: Kids Practicing Digital Citizenship
Thursday, February 27, 2020 2pm to 3pm
About this Event
Social media has upended the way we communicate and changed the way we see both the world and ourselves. But the sea change brought on by social media also present a number of complicated challenges, particularly for younger users. It’s natural that kids and tweens want to explore social media, but navigating that world without a guide can be overwhelming and even dangerous.
Social Media TestDrive is an interactive educational platform created by researchers in the Cornell University's Social Media Lab in collaboration with Common Sense Education that lets young people learn and practice digital citizenship skills. TestDrive provides a simulated experience of realistic digital dilemmas and scenarios that young people may encounter as they begin to venture online.
In this webinar, you will:
- Learn how TestDrive can help educators and parents prepare children for entering the online world.
- Discover the skills young users need to master in order to make social media a positive experience, such as managing privacy settings, smart self-presentation, and standing up to cyberbullying.
- Understand the importance of helping kids identify “fake news” and become informed consumers of online content.
