The Magic of Mushrooms

Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 8:00am to 5:00pm

Mann Library, 2nd floor, Mann Library 237 Mann Drive, Ithaca, NY

Professor Kathie Hodge’s class, Magical Mushrooms, Mischievous Molds is not your typical biology class— it’s more like a narrated double-decker bus tour of the Kingdom of Fungi. Together, Dr. Hodge, her students and their T.A.’s  tell the stories of weird and world-sustaining mushrooms, pay homage to the noble works of yeasts, and explore humid thickets of medicinal molds. Over the course of the semester, they meet a host of subjects from the world of fungi, and then eat some of them.
Because the class aims to be approachable, it attracts a delightfully diverse group of students —hundreds of them.  For a pinch of extra credit, some seized the opportunity to make fungus-inspired art based on a fungus fact.  The wider Cornell community is cordially invited to enjoy a browse through their creative and exuberant work in this exhibit on display in the 2nd floor of Mann Library.  Come prepared to be intrigued!
