The focus at The Kampong is education using the propertyÂ's unparalleled living collections. Located on Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove, Florida, The Kampong contains a diverse array of plants from the tropics and warm subtropics, including tropical fruits, palms, flowering trees, flowering shrubs, and vines.
Join your fellow Cornell Club alumni and The Kampong staff for coffee and donuts, and then a morning of cleaning and gardening. After, spend the afternoon enjoying The Kampong. This hidden oasis tucked away in metropolitan Miami allows you to immerse yourself in the story of legendary plant explorer David Fairchild. Stand dwarfed by an 80-year old baobab tree from Tanzania that weighs almost 50 tons while delighting in the fragrances of flowering plants prized by the perfume industry. Marvel at the fascinating fruits Mr. Fairchild brought from his travels and introduced into the U.S. in his private garden, and see his historic home and study where he penned recollections of his expeditions and his observations about the plant world.
Dress: Proper gardening attire is recommended for this event. Such attire includes jeans, older clothing, close-toed shoes, hats, sunscreen, and a water bottle.
