The Renewal Center provides shelter, food, and education to migrant workers that are in transition. Many of them travelled to Shanghai and couldn't find a job and have to live on the streets. The Renewal Center puts a roof over them and help them in finding jobs.
Below is a Bio of the founder Jimmy McWhinney.
Jimmy McWhinney is a co-founder and the current Director of the Renewal Center. In 2001, he left Texas for Shanghai, where he began studying Chinese at East China Normal University. Jimmy has received his MA in Asia-Pacific Studies from the University of Leeds (UK). During his study, he unexpectedly found himself excited about providing doorways for individuals to attain the freedom to live lives they value. At it inception, the Renewal Center residence was an extra room on the bottom floor of his old flat, but now Jimmy and the residents share a room lined with bunkbeds in the center itself.
