About this Event
330 W. State Street, Ithaca, NY
The World Will Not Hold Still, an informal concert of original dance, live music and film, interconnects body and Earth: moving from subtle, inner worlds to vast stretches of geologic time.
The concert features the premiere of Curious Creatures, a collaboration between choreographer/dancer Cynthia Stevens, composer/saxophonist Mark Karlsen and dancer Emily Healy. Curious Creatures plies the gamut of physicality, exploring how our inner life is rooted in and finds expression through the body.
The concert also includes an Ithaca premiere: Small Catastrophes delves into the geological forces shaping the Finger Lakes landscape, telescoping from human to geologic scale through movement, percussion and song. Choreographed, composed and performed by Cynthia Stevens, with performance by Emily Healy.
Source is a film exploring the essential and peculiar ways water animates our world. It draws on years of dancing in Six Mile Creek, the water source of Ithaca, NY, dwelling with the ecology, form and processes of the water and its inhabitants. Danced by Anna Marie Shogren, Audrey Pincus and Stevens with cinematography by David Brown.
