"When Stars Die: What We’ve Learned"

Planetary nebulae show beautiful shapes that have captured the attention of the astronomers ever since they were first discovered. A large fraction of stars end their lives producing a planetary nebula, and the same fate is expected for the Sun. At present a large number of these objects have been identified, and many of their properties are known; however, there are still many attributes to be unveiled. I will review the different steps that have taken place to understand these amazing objects.
