Wednesday, November 14, 2018 4:30pm to 6pm
About this Event
942 University Ave, Ithaca, NY 14850, USA
Ling Wang, Vice Director of the Department of Landscape Architecture at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, will speak on the 2035 Shanghai Master Plan.
Despite massive growth over the past several decades, the municipal government of Shanghai has continuously strived to maintain its ability to grow a substantial portion of its food supply within its boundaries. Today about 55% of the city's land area is still dedicated to food production. In the newly adopted 2035 Shanghai Master Plan, the municipal government has reiterated its policy of a local food system that grows about 50% of its fresh fruits and produce, and 30% of its overall food supply.
The implications of Shanghai's agricultural land production in terms of a sustainable future are large.
Co-sponsored by the East Asia Program's Cornell Contemporary China Initiative.
