Diabetes is increasing in prevalence worldwide affecting 537 million adults worldwide (nearly 40 million in USA) with devastating consequences for longevity and quality of life for affected individuals and their families. The majority of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes which is commonly believed to be a progressive irreversible disease. However, Dr. Taheri and his team have shown that an intensive lifestyle intervention can result in over 60 percent of people putting their type 2 diabetes remission without medication. Taheri will present his work and show how lifestyle changes and modern ideas can help us look at type 2 diabetes differently and provide better potential outcomes for affected individuals.
