The Party (at 7:15pm):

Jazz age decorations and twinkling lights will adorn our beloved theatre where you'll be treated to a display of vintage flapper dresses courtesy of Cornell's Costume Collection, live piano bar music, complimentary hors d'oeuvres & desserts, complimentary wine (for all of-age party-goers) courtesy of Sparrow's Wine Legend, and more. We'll also be giving away an array of door prizes!

The Film (at 8:45pm):

A rare screening of a 35mm print of Ernst Lubitsch’s pre-code silent comedy So This is Paris (1926), preserved by the Library of Congress. The film will be accompanied live on piano by the one and only Dr. Philip Carli, one of the best silent film accompanists in the world! The story of two pleasure-seeking gals who, unbeknownst to one another, take a fancy to each other’s husband, So This is Paris allowed German émigré Lubitsch to teach Hollywood a thing or two about sexy shenanigans. The film’s highlight is a wildly extravagant party, featuring the first choreographed dance scene to appear in a film. The dance? The Charleston, of course!

The Cause:

Cornell Cinema is dependent on income from this annual fundraising party to balance our budget each year. For those who don’t know, Cornell Cinema is only partially subsidized by the University, and must pay for things like staff salaries and office & theatre rent, in addition to all the costs associated with the programs we present (film rental, film shipping, guest fees, advertising, etc.) Please help us continue to bring a wonderful array of cinematic events to Ithaca by attending this party or making a donation!
