DESCRIPTION:"Surprises in Topic Model Estimation and New Wasserstein Docume
 nt-distance Calculations"\n\n \n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nFlorentina Bunea received
her Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Washington\, and is a Prof
essor of Statistics at Cornell University\, the Ithaca Campus. She is an e
lected IMS fellow for her foundational work in model selection and aggrega
 tion in parametric\, semi-parametric and non-parametric models.\n\nHer res
earch interests center around statistical machine learning\, with a focus
on methodology and theory. Her most current works are motivated by the stu
dy of high dimensional models with hidden low dimensional structures that
arise in complex applications. Examples include latent space overlapping c
lustering\; inference\, prediction and classification in models with hidde
n structures\; understanding prediction performance with minimum-norm inte
rpolating predictors\; topic models. Her work on inference and prediction
with interpretable latent factor regression received an IMS award in 2020.
\n\nHer research has been continuously funded by the NSF-DMS\, with confer
ence grants awarded either by NSF or by international organizations. She h
as served or is serving as an AE for premier journals in statistics\, incl
uding The Annals of Statistics\, The Journal of the American Statistical A
ssociation and The Journal of the Royal Statistical Society.
