Seleni Matus was the 1st President of the Mesoamerican Ecotourism Alliance, former Director of Tourism for the Belize Tourism Board; Board Member for the Global Sustainable Tourism Council; and presently works with Sustainable Travel International as Senior Advisor for Destinations.

The lecture will discuss the new reality that governments and business decision makers in tourism destinations around the world are facing that is challenging them to look beyond business as usual, and recognize that their future success is dependent on the destination’s ability to preserve its natural and cultural asset base and enhance the well-being of its residents.  This lecture will also explore initial destination responses to the sustainability challenge, and next-generation approaches and tools that are paving the way for sustainable destinations.

Co-Sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise and the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs.
