The lecture will discuss the new reality that governments and business decision makers in tourism destinations around the world are facing that is challenging them to look beyond business as usual, and recognize that their future success is dependent on the destination’s ability to preserve its natural and cultural asset base and enhance the well-being of its residents. This lecture will also explore initial destination responses to the sustainability challenge, and next-generation approaches and tools that are paving the way for sustainable destinations.
