DATE: Saturday, April 2, 2022, 10:00 am - 11:30 pm
Grow everything from artichokes to zucchini from seed at home. Save money and enjoy the miraculous process of seed germination and plant growth in your home to get you through these last weeks of winter and get your garden started early. We’ll cover techniques such as cold stratification and scarification as well as simple recipes for making your own potting and mixes to save even more money. We’ll talk about tools such as grow lights and heat mats and soil blocks. The Tuesday evening class will be via zoom. The Saturday workshop location will be sent to you with your registration confirmation. Join for one or both. Our in-person workshop is limited to 30 participants. We have scholarship spots available, please reach out to Maria Christian at mjc72@ cornell.edu if you would like one of those spots. Dress for working with soil.
About the instructors: Chrys Gardener currently teaches online courses in Organic Gardening and Garden Design at Cornell's School of Integrated Plant Science and manages an ecological garden design and installation business with her husband. Chrys was formerly a horticultural educator at CCE Tompkins, specializing in community gardens and county beautification. She is also a dedicated food gardener, producing most of their vegetables and fruits for the year on their small homestead.
Mila Fournier is a garden designer and educator with two decades of design experience that started with guerilla gardening in Brooklyn and has moved her through designing some of the most sophisticated gardens in NYC. Once in Ithaca, Mila has worked as an educator, designer, and horticultural consultant, including managing Ithaca Children's Garden and helping large developers create beautiful landscapes and habitats to offset new construction.
Our goal is to help our areas gardeners have access to this knowledge, free from financial barriers. We have two scholarship spots in this class. If you would like a scholarship spot, please reach out to Maria Christian at mjc72@cornell.edu
Class size is limited to 20 participants. There is a sliding scale fee of $15-$40, for this class.
