Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County Master Gardeners on March 26th from 9am-1pm at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County to learn all things about best practices for starting seeds for your home garden. We will cover lighting fixtures and requirements, seed starting media, seed germination and how to successfully acclimate and transplant your seedlings to their garden settings. We'll also discuss season extension techniques, how to take a soil test, and how to successfully utilize soil amendments to create healthy soils. Then we will get our hands dirty to learn proper transplanting and seeding techniques for different types of typical garden vegetables.  If weather and time allows we will tour the Cutler Botanic Gardens a 4.5 acre teaching garden at CCE Broome. This workshop is geared towards veterans who are looking to start, or expand, their gardening efforts. Attendees will receive a set of 6 transplants to start a garden at home. This workshop is for military veterans only. The cost of this workshop is a $25 supply/materials fee, which will be refunded upon attendance at the March 26th workshop.

The funding supporting this workshop comes from the Cornell Small Farms veteran project, FarmOps, and targets active service members & military veterans only who reside in NY or NJ. Registration is limited to 15 participants to ensure a quality experience. Questions and follow-up by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County will help us determine final eligibility to attend and participate in this workshop.
