This lecture will introduce the Python programming language and the Python software ecosystem, with which one can create software pipelines for data analysis, simulation, and scientific computing in a wide variety of application areas. The talk will introduce some key concepts in computer programming, and how those concepts are implemented in Python. Some prior programming experience would be helpful, but this lecture is intended to provide some useful information to those just getting started, those who have done some programming but are new to Python, and those who are looking to learn more about how to leverage the Python language and ecosystem. Level: Introductory. Prerequisites: None. Time: Wednesday, February 12, 2025, 9am-10am ET, with 30 mins optional discussion time immediately afterward.
