Tuesday, October 27, 2015 6:30pm
About this Event
235 S. Cayuga St.
http://sciencecabaret.orgIn collaboration with Sustainable Tompkins, Science Cabaret will be hosting a program for anyone interested in learning about how communities might respond to climate change.
MC Mark Sarvary and host Gay Nicholson of Sustainable Tompkins will introduce you to local community leaders taking on the roles of an imaginary 2017 task force representing sectors such as public works, agriculture, and transportation who will try to make a case for what part of the $20 million in carbon tax revenue allotted to Tompkins County should be spent in the sectors they represent to either reduce carbon emissions or adapt to climate disruption.
Participants:
Leslie Danks Burke | Michelle Courtney Berry | Jonathan Comstock
Rena Scroggins | Gerald Torres | Krys Cail | Eldred Harris
Event attendees will be able to ask questions to challenge or clarify the positions of the community leaders. Attendees will also participate in a live online vote for how they would distribute carbon tax funds.
This program is part of “Seal the Cracks” Local Carbon Offset Week, a campaign for the Finger Lakes Climate Fund to raise awareness about local carbon offsetting and how we can help others at the same time we are taking responsibility for our unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions.
For more info please visit: fingerlakesclimatefund.org/sealthecracks
Attendees who make a carbon offset that night will be entered into a raffle for a range of prizes donated by local nonprofits and businesses.
Note: Come early at 6:30 pm for drinks and mingling. Program begins at 7:00 pm. Paul, at the Coltivare Bar, has created a climate-inspired cocktail for you to enjoy.
