The Spring 2024 Barbara & David Zalaznick Creative Writing Reading Series begins with the Richard Cleaveland Memorial Reading by poets Ishion Hutchinson and Lyrae Van Clief-Stefanon.

Ishion Hutchinson was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica. He is the author of the poetry collections School of Instructions, House of Lords and Commons and Far District and the forthcoming book of essays, Fugitive Tilts.

The author of Open Interval, a finalist for the National Book Award and the LA Times Book Prize, and Black Swan, winner of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize, LYRAE VAN CLIEF-STEFANON has been awarded fellowships from Cave Canem, the Lannan Foundation, Civitella Ranieri, and NYSCA/NYFA.

The Richard Cleaveland Memorial Reading was created in 2002 by family and friends of Richard Cleaveland, Cornell Class of ’74, to honor his memory.
