DESCRIPTION:Classification of quantum states under k-local and sequential q
uantum circuits \n\n\nWhether a given target quantum state can be prepared
by starting with a simple product state and acting with a finite-depth qu
antum circuit is a key question in condensed matter physics and quantum in
formation science. It underpins the classification of topological phases\,
as well as the understanding of topological quantum codes\, and has obvio
us relevance for device implementations. Traditionally\, this question ass
umes that the quantum circuit is made up of unitary gates which are geomet
rically local and when the circuit depth is linear\, there are no restrict
ions on the number of gates acting on each degree of freedom. In this talk
\, I discuss the classification of quantum states under two classes of qua
ntum circuits: finite-depth circuits where gates are allowed to be geometr
ically non-local and sequential linear-depth circuits where only a constan
t number of gates are allowed to act on each degree of freedom. Such class
es of quantum circuits establish a hierarchy among many-body entangled sta
 tes.\n \n\nFaculty Hosts: Eun-Ah Kim\, Chao-Ming Jian\, and Debanjan Chowd
