Public Sector Leadership: Why Government Should NOT Be Run Like a Business

Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 1:00pm

For years, a popular argument in some circles has been that the government should be run more like a business. But that argument is wrong, plain and simple. Public organizations are not the same as private, for-profit businesses. Government agencies and private companies operate in different environments and are driven by vastly different missions. That’s why effective leadership within the public sector requires a specific set of skills that doesn’t directly translate from the boardroom.

In this one-hour online event with labor relations expert and former Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Seth Harris, you will:

  • Recognize the myriad ways public sector organizations differ from the private sector.

  • Learn how to to excel as a public organization leader given those differences.

  • Develop strategies for motivating public sector employees and leading them to success.
