Learn the difference and hear how it's done as Department of Architecture Assistant Professor Samia Henni speaks with Philip Ursprung, professor of the history of art and architecture and designated dean of the Department of Architecture at ETH Zürich.
Ursprung earned his Ph.D. in art history at Freie Universität Berlin after studying in Geneva, Vienna, and Berlin. His research deals with the history of modern and contemporary art and architecture with a focus on North American art in the 1960s and 1970s and European architecture since the 1980s. He has taught at the University of Geneva; the Hochschule der Künste Berlin; Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation; the Barcelona Institute of Architecture; and the University of Zürich. Since 2013, he has served as president of the scientific board of Zentralinstiut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich. Ursprung was awarded the Golden Owl for excellent teaching by the student association of ETH Zürich and the Prix Meret Oppenheim by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture.
