Paywall: The Business of Scholarship

Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 4:30pm to 6:15pm

Willard Straight Theatre, Willard Straight Theater
Central Campus

Join filmmaker Jason Schmitt at this free screening of Paywall: The Business of Scholarship, a documentary that explores the open access movement and uncovers the hidden world of for-profit academic publishing.

How do top academic publishers rake in $25.2 billion a year, often making profits greater than tech giants Apple, Facebook, or Google? How can we explore alternatives that will foster innovation and access to knowledge for all?

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and a Q&A with the director, joined by Gerald R. Beasley, the Carl A. Kroch University Librarian, and members of the University Faculty Library Board. This special event is hosted by Cornell University Library and Cornell Cinema.
