In celebration of the Kroch Asia exhibit Story/Lines: Visual Narratives in Japanese Pop Culture, Andrew Campana (Department of Asian Studies), Gregory Londe (Department of English), and Jimmy McKee (Mann Library) will discuss Japanese graphic novels from different viewpoints. Please join us for this discussion and Q&A!

About the exhibit:

Running through July 15 in Kroch Asia Collections, Story/Lines takes the viewer through the history of manga, from the origins of the term and early examples of this visual narrative form to the enormously influential cultural phenomenon that manga have become today. The exhibition delves into different topics, including the production cycle of manga, interactive fan culture, and subgenres that challenge the norms of gender and sexuality. Several iconic manga series are highlighted with striking black-and-white images throughout the exhibit.
