Orientation to Group Certificate in Community-Engaged Leadership

Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Virtual Event

Register to attend

The group leadership program begins with an orientation, which at least two students from your group must attend. Orientations are offered only one time each semester.

Before attending, speak with at least two other members of your leadership team, and consider which group or subgroup within your organization might pursue the group certificate. We encourage you to connect with OEI staff before attending; to schedule an appointment with Mike Bishop, director of student leadership, email him at bishop@cornell.edu.

Groups have one full year to earn the group certificate, with the first semester to participate in leadership education and confirm one off-campus community partner, and the second semester to take action off-campus and critically reflect. It is possible to earn this distinction in one summer or semester if your group already has a community partner and is committed to attending leadership workshops. Even before formally pursuing, you can send your leadership team and active members to Be the Change skill building workshops (pre-engagement, mentorship, and facilitating critical reflection), offered multiples times each semester.

We will share more details about the process and benefits at the orientation. Groups that participate will gain stronger alignment between your group’s mission or purpose and day to day activities, coaching and mentoring by OEI professional and graduate student staff, promotion by OEI on its website, enewsletter and social media, and group funding.
