Thursday, September 18, 2025 4:30pm to 5:30pm
About this Event
Cornell University
Join Emily Detrick, the Elizabeth Weaver Director of Horticulture at Cornell Botanic Gardens, to explore the profoundly creative connection between plants and people. This talk is held in conjunction with the opening reception for the exhibit Plant-Based: Botanical Innovations from Paper to Poison at Cornell University Library’s Rare and Manuscript Collections in Carl A. Kroch Library at 5:30 p.m.
Drawing inspiration from Cicero's timeless words about libraries and gardens, Detrick reveals how art serves as a vital bridge between the natural world and human experience. She will share how hands-on engagement in the Botanic Gardens, creating plant-based art, and delving into the rich holdings of library and natural history collections foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of plants, science, and human cultures for Cornell students.
