Program agenda:

9:00AM- Registration & Refreshments

9:30AM- Welcome, Introductions, Program Updates
Local CCE Educator(s), SWCD Representative(s)

9:45AM- Bedded Packs -Are they right for your farm and how do we manage them for success?
Jason Oliver, PRO-DAIRY & Justin Bach, Jefferson SWCD
Bedded packs can be alternatives to conventional livestock heavy use areas.  How do you know if they might be right for your farm, what are the challenges and strategies for successful operation and management of these facilities and what are the resources for funding this practice?

10:45AM- On-Farm Livestock Mortality Management
Jason Oliver (PRO-DAIRY) & Kirsten Workman (PRO-DAIRY)
Rendering is not always an option and can be cost prohibitive.  We will discuss the options available (burial, incineration, composting), regulatory considerations, and best management practices for managing mortalities on farm.

11:45AM- Lunch and visit with sponsors/exhibitors

12:45PM- Manure Safety
Jason Oliver (PRO-DAIRY) & Kirsten Workman (PRO-DAIRY)
This session will cover how to safely handle and apply manure.  Topics will include manure gases, safety protocol, strategies for keeping employees safe, OSHA compliance and more.

1:45PM- Manure Applicator Training (NYSDEC approved)
Kirsten Workman (PRO-DAIRY)
Certificates will be provided.  This is a required course for two manure applicator employees for CAFO farms once every five years, but is beneficial to all individuals who apply manure. We've refreshed the training with more real-life scenarios in order to help make this training more applicable to your farm operations.
