  and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) Pyramid Model is de
 signed to support the social and emotional development of children 2 &frac
 12\; through 5 years of age.\nThe Pyramid Model is a framework of evidence
 -based practices for promoting young children’s social and emotional com
 petence and for preventing and addressing challenging behavior. The Pyrami
 d Model includes extensive resources to help New York’s child care progr
 ams and providers implement the model.\nThe preschool modules are for appr
 opriate for professional development providers\, administrators\, and teac
 hers/caregivers who work with older toddlers and preschoolers (aged 2 &fra
 c12\; - 5 years of age).\nThis module addresses strategies for preventing 
 challenging behavior. The module is based on the following principles:\na)
  Positive relationships with children serve as the foundation for addressi
 ng social emotional needs.\nb) When children understand routines and the e
 xpectations for their behavior\, and when they are engaged in activities t
 hat are meaningful\, they are less likely to engage in challenging behavio
 r.\nc) Expectations and routines have to be taught to children using a ran
