New Paltz: The 2014 Midterm Election: A Weekend Seminar with CAU
Friday, October 31, 2014
About this Event
In the wake of the breathtakingly tense presidential campaign leading up to Barack Obama’s re-election in 2012, we now have the chance to assess what may well be one of the most important mid-term elections in generations. Will the Republicans retake control of the Senate and retain their majority in the House? If so, will that mean gridlock on such issues as the economy, immigration, and gun violence? And what will the results in 2014 mean for the presidential contest of 2016?
Glenn Altschuler will bring to bear his well-honed skills as social analyst as he lectures on the cultural and ideological temper of the nation on the eve of the elections. Nick Salvatore will discuss the political strategies of each party, and both he and Glenn will offer predictions on Sunday about the outcomes of the imminent elections. All of our lectures, lively discussions, and conversations over meals will take place at the majestic Mohonk Mountain House, whose splendid surroundings you can enjoy during a stretch of free time on Saturday afternoon.
This program is part of Cornell's Adult University (CAU), which offers acclaimed education vacations designed and led by Cornell faculty. Programs include off-campus travel adventures and weeklong on-campus summer courses open to all, including Cornell alumni, families, and friends.
