New metrics for monitoring food and diet globally

Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 12:20pm to 1:10pm

Savage Hall, 100

Cornell Nutrition presents the Program in International Nutrition Seminar with Dr. Anna Herforth. Dr. Anna Herforth conducts research on food metrics.  Her current focus on diet quality, food affordability, and food environment measurement stems from a decade of consulting for international organizations on the topic of linking agriculture and nutrition, including the World Bank, FAO, WHO, UNICEF, CGIAR, GAIN, and bilateral agencies such as USAID, Germany’s GIZ, and Australia’s DFAT. She has worked in Africa, South Asia, and Latin America, including with agricultural and indigenous communities. She holds a Ph.D. in international nutrition from Cornell University, M.S. in food policy from Tufts University, and a B.S. in plant science from Cornell University.

Based on the model of starting the Food Agriculture and Nutrition Group (FANG) at Cornell while in grad school, Dr. Herforth and Dr. Emily Levitt Ruppert co-founded the Agriculture-Nutrition Community of Practice (Ag2Nut) in 2010, a professional community with now over 6,000 members from over 120 countries, and three country chapters in Africa.
