Deputy Chief Operating Officer  

Office of Ambulatory Care at New York City Health and Hospitals  

Sarah Joseph Kurien currently serves as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Ambulatory Care Operations in the Office of Ambulatory Care and Population Health at NYC Health + Hospitals. In this role, she supports access to primary and preventive care services through strategies including schedule optimization, eConsult implementation, and standardizing scheduling and referral practices across the 11 hospital facilities within the health system. In addition, she leads programmatic initiatives including the system’s Street Health Outreach and Wellness Program that serves unsheltered New Yorkers, and more recently, the Humanitarian Emergency Relief and Response Centers (HERRCs) for newly-arriving asylum seekers. In addition to her Ambulatory Care role, Sarah also led Testing & Vaccination for the City’s Test & Trace Corps, and now oversees the Test & Treat Corps’ testing, treatment, and at home vaccination programs. Sarah is a 2022-23 America’s Essential Hospitals Fellow and is the 2022 recipient of the Frederick O’ Reilly Hayes Prize awarded for excellence in city service. She received her MPA from Cornell University and her BA from Colby College.
