Sponsored by the Cornell Rural Humanities initiative and developed in collaboration with the Gayogohó:nǫˀ Learning Project, Mobilizing Naming in (Tompkins County) project explores alternative rural and urban configurations of the lands and waters of Tompkins County. It asks what other names have shaped these spaces and how we might experience the landscape through languages that imbue them with different meanings.

This event serves as a public introduction to the project. We will discuss the Gayogohó:nǫˀ culture and language and their enduring ties to the region’s environment, and will talk about possible ways in which the public information infrastructures of the county might support more inclusive and plural ways of naming the landscape.
