http://music.cornell.eduMidday Music in Lincoln: Travis Johns, Cybernetics, Improvisation and other New Instruments: For this session of Midday Music, Travis Johns will present a performance and brief lecture-demonstration on various instruments designed and constructed for pedagogical use at Cornell, including student projects, teaching examples and other devices designed to illustrate the various interactions between sound and technology. In this particular performance, he will be debuting two new instruments – first, the first of four new synthesizer modules developed by way of the Cornell Center for Historical Keyboards small grants program, as well as a new interface designed to translate human brain activity into electric impulses with the goal of manipulating, and in some cases fully controlling electronic and acoustic instruments. A demonstration of each instrument will follow the performance, as well as an opportunity for attendees to try the instruments themselves.
