"Managing Your Forest" is intended to help landowners learn about resources to help them actively manage their forested lands. Many people have small forests they want to use  for hiking, hunting, maple syrup or timber income. This workshop will inspire people to manage their forests, especially at a time when NY Forests are under attack from invasive species and over browsed by white-tailed deer.

Participants can join either in person in Seneca Falls or virtually via Zoom.
$9/person includes pizza for in-person attendees. Registration is required by Tuesday, September 10th.

AGENDA:
  • 5:30pm: Pizza served while watching portable Sawmill Demonstration (for in-person participants only) - with Ryan Staychock, Environment/Natural Resources Educator for Cayuga, Schuyler & Seneca County CCE
  • 6:10pm: Forest Stewardship Management Plans - Brice June, Stewardship Forester, NYS DEC Region 8 (Avon) will discuss the fundamentals of a forest stewardship plan and summarize how qualified landowners can leverage a cost-free forest stewardship plan.
  • 6:45pm: Best Management Practices for Small Parcels - Peter J. Smallidge, Ph.D., NYS Extension Forester and director of Cornell’s Arnot Forest, will discuss Best Management Practices for small parcels.
  • 7:30pm: Master Forest Owner and other forest programs - Lydia Williams, MFO NW Regional Director & NR Program Coordinator, Dale Schaefer, Western Finger Lakes NYFOA Chair will summarize various forestry related programs including the MFOs program.
