2025 Ag Literacy School and Vol Registration
Monday, March 17, 2025
About this Event
This registration is for the Classroom and Volunteer readers to register for the
2025 Agriculture Literacy Week Program, March 17-21, 2025
Once again the NYS Farm Bureau and Cornell Cooperative Extension Oneida County are teaming up to bring Ag Literacy Week to the youth of Oneida County.
How the program works:
This year our book is geared for 1st thru 3rd grade, though Kindergarten have participated in the past.
Once your classroom has registered that they would like to participate, a volunteer will contact you to arrange a day and time to come in, read the book and do a activity. The whole program lasts from a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. In February volunteers will be contacting teachers directly to coordinate dates and times.
If you don't want a volunteer to come to your classroom you may read to them!
In the past some schools have a specific volunteer that has read to them. If you would like to request a specific reader there is an opportunity to do so.
All school requests must be in by January 5th! This allows enough time to order books, supplies and arrange volunteer readers.
When registering you will need to provide the following information:
- School Name
- School Address
- School Phone
- Alternate Phone
- Teachers name ( Please register each teacher separately!)
- Grade
- Number of students
- Classroom Statistics
- What date do you want the Reading/Activity ( If your school is requesting us to come in for several grades please try to schedule the readings back to back on the same day. This means you need to speak to the other teachers in your school)
- Do you have someone that will read to your students. (You don't need a volunteer, teachers may read to their own classrooms)
- Please supply a name and contact phone number for your reader if you have one in mind.
Volunteer Readers
Thank you for volunteering for Ag Lit Week. Please take a moment to supply me with some basic contact information. This will allow me to keep you up to date on any news or changes that may arise.
About This Year's Book
The Pie That Molly Grew
Written by Sue Heavenrich
Illustrated by Chamisa Kellogg
Beginning with the planting of a single seed, join Molly on the journey of bringing a pumpkin to harvest. Under Molly’s watchful eye and care, each stage of growth – from the seed to the sprout to the leaves to the final fruit on the vine – is showcased. At the end, Molly’s lovely pumpkin is turned into a delicious pie to one and all to share in a celebration of gratitude. All from the seed that Molly sowed.
It is an honor to feature New York author Sue Heavenrich for our 2025 Agricultural Literacy Week program. Based in Tioga County, Sue is a lifelong lover of biology, gardening, and reading. A teacher of many sorts, Sue especially loves telling stories about the science she sees in her backyard, or in this case, her garden!
