Food Justice - February 26

Come meet Bobby and Eden for a discussion on food justice. Bobby and Eden are members of the Tompkins County Food Policy Council for a talk about issues of food justice and service learning opportunities in our community.

Prior to coming to the Multicultural Resource Center, Eden served as a Project Facilitator and Program Coordinator of Project SAFE, an arts-based sexual health education program working with Brooklyn teenagers. She is a farm-to-table cook, DJ, and community worker residing in Ithaca, NY. Her focus is within the interconnected worlds of racial justice and food/land sovereignty.

Bobby is a third-year Cornell PhD student. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Prairie View A&M University in Texas (2011) and a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the Cornell Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (2013). His research interests are located at the nexus of community vitality, food justice, and sustainable agriculture.

Rafael Aponte has a deep commitment to education, food justice, and sovereignty. His interest in health and community was informed by his own experiences growing up in the South Bronx. As a graduate of Farm School NYC, he recently moved to Tompkins County with his partner to create a community-minded farming venture that bridges urban and rural communities. The farm will focus on education and the sustainable production of local vegetables, herbs, and meat for low-income communities.
