Virtual EventTitle: Open questions about constraints on gravitational EFTs
Abstract: Fundamental properties of the S-matrix have been shown to be extremely powerful to constrain non-gravitational Effective Field Theories (EFTs). However, gravity, due to its long-range nature, is a huge obstacle for a straightforward application of these constraints. I will talk about some work in progress towards an understanding of causality constraints on EFTs. I will share with you some open questions about an intriguing connection between scattering amplitudes and black-hole physics, as well as the propagation of signals on curved space-time and its relation to causality.
