First Result of the

LUX-ZEPLIN Experiment

A laboratory detection of the Milky Way's dark matter halo would be a spectacular confirmation of modern cosmology, and would rewrite the standard model of particle physics as well. The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment is a dark matter detector operating at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota, USA. LZ has been operational at SURF since 2021 and will continue operations until 2026. LZ has successfully completed it's first science campaign, and boasts world leading sensitivity. In this talk we will give an overview of the LZ detector, it's first science campaign and results, and the science program accessible with the LZ experiment in the coming years.
