Abstract: "Locality" is a central principle of physical systems, but different communities think about locality in quite different ways. I will overview some recent work attempting to bridge the gap between "algebraic" locality principles and "categorical" locality principles, with connections to TQFT and topological order. Based on 2503.20863 and 2509.03589, and ongoing work with Nick Holfester.
