Title: Large language models and physics education research
Abstract: With recent advancements in machine learning, in particular the development of large language models (LLMs), the physics education research community is considering the use of these tools to aid in several stages of the research process. I will describe the inner workings of an LLM, and I will discuss how physics education researchers can assess the trustworthiness of methodologies that use machine learning.
