Koyaanisqatsi Live! w/ Philip Glass soundtrack performed live by the Philip Glass Ensemble (Michael Riesman, Music Director)

Friday, November 3, 2017 at 7:30pm to 8:57pm

Bailey Hall

1982 > USA > Directed by Godfrey Reggio
Titled with a Hopi language word meaning "Life out of Balance," this pioneering environmental art film was unlike anything audiences had previously experienced, and it became a cult sensation. A non-verbal film integrating images, music and ideas contrasting scenes from America"s natural and urban landscapes, it was a prescient meditation on the imbalance between humans and our environment, one that's resonating anew with today's audiences.
"Mr. Reggio's images haunt the viewer, accompanied by one of the most startling and original soundtracks ever written...the score for Koyaanisqatsi is invigorating, often tremulously beautiful, and almost extraordinarily in synergy with the visions projected upon the screen." (NY Times) Advance tickets available at BaileyTickets.com beginning mid- August. Presented in conjunction with the Atkinson Forum in American Studies with major support provided by David & Pat Atkinson.
