DESCRIPTION:The Einaudi Center\, in collaboration with Cornell Abroad\, the
Center for Teaching Excellence\, the Center for Engaged Learning + Resear
ch\, and the Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives (OADI)\, is organizi
 ng a one-day internationalization symposium on May 13\, 2015 in G10 Biotec
hnology entitled “Integration of International Experience into the Curri
culum.” This symposium—addressed to faculty\, staff\, and administrati
ve leaders in departments\, colleges\, and the university—provides a uni
que opportunity to create awareness\; improve our collective thinking\; re
view models and approaches\; share ideas and learn from each other\; ident
ify challenges\, issues\, and resource needs\; and develop recommendations
.\n\nAt Cornell new and expanding global programs—such as international
internships\, service learning programs\, and innovative study abroad cour
ses—have been aimed at advancing the president's call to enhance Cornell
's excellence in international studies and global engagement by having “
meaningful international experiences.” Cornell’s pledge to the nationa
l “Generation Study Abroad” initiative has been twofold:\n\nIncrease u
ndergraduate participation in education abroad\, with at least 50% of unde
rgraduates having a substantive international experience by graduation.\n\
nExpand and enhance the number and quality of student opportunities for me
aningful international experiences linked to their curriculum.\n\nThe upco
ming symposium builds on the first internationalization symposium in Febru
ary 2014\, “What Constitutes a Meaningful International Experience?” w
hich started a university-wide conversation aimed at bringing the multitud
e of efforts in the international arena under the strategic umbrella of th
e Global Cornell Initiative. One of the strongest takeaways of last year
’s symposium was the importance of connecting international experiences
and programs to the curriculum. Although we do have several excellent exam
ples from our colleges\, many international experiences and programs are n
ot or only partly integrated into the curriculum\, while many degree progr
ams do not have any international dimension.\n\nThe symposium will include
  four sessions: \n\nSession 1: Internationalizing the Curriculum\nSession
2: Global Learning Outcomes and Assessment\nSession 3: Models and Strategi
es for Integrating International Experiences\nSession 4: Institutional Opp
ortunities and the Challenges of Curriculum Integration\n\nEach session wi
ll feature case studies from Cornell's colleges\, student and faculty pane
l discussions\, and presentations. We will welcome three external speakers
(http://einaudi.cornell.edu/speakers/) from peer universities and experts
in the field of international education to benefit from their experiences
and lessons learned.\n\nPlease register here: https://www.surveymonkey.co
