Friday, October 1, 2021 10am to 2:30pm
About this Event
The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County, Cornell Small Farms Veterans Project “Farm-Ops”, Canandaigua VA Medical Center, and Chobani Foundation come together to support an on farm workshop for military veterans to learn how to set up a grazing and fencing program for livestock. This workshop will occur October 1, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Any active-duty service members and veteran residing in New York or New Jersey are eligible to register. The event will be held at Great Northern Farm in Eaton, NY, 1716 Fisk Road, Eaton, NY in southern Madison County, near Morrisville and Hamilton NY.
Rich Taber, an Army Veteran, longtime farmer and CCE Grazing, Forestry, and Animal Science Educator will explain how he reclaims old fields using brush hogs, native seedbanks, fertility inputs, animals, and principles of regenerative agriculture to inexpensively provide lush, nourishing pastures for livestock. The workshop includes lunch and a guided tour of the farm to show how the theories of grazing have been applied to this cold, high elevation property.
Attendance is free and limited to 20 attendees. Lunch will be provided. Military attendees will be provided with a copy of Sarah Flack’s excellent book “The Art and Science of Grazing”, which retails for $30.00.
To register, call 607-334-5841 ext. 1121 or email rbt44@cornell.edu. Please provide your name (first and last), Veteran status, phone number, and an email. Registration closes Wednesday, September 28, 2021.
