Glickman Ensemble

Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 7:30pm

Schwartz Center for Performing Arts, Kiplinger Theater
430 College Ave, Ithaca, NY 14850, USA

The bassoon? It's not an instrument people think of often—but it gives a beautiful sound, with a range like the human voice, expressive and emotional. The Glickman Ensemble (Catherine Marchese, Edwin Cabrera, and Lisa Alexander) takes the idea of the bassoon and multiplies it by three, working alone as a group or with pianist Pej Reitz to create a gorgeous rush of music.

All three bassoonists studied under Loren Glickman, one of America's foremost bassoon soloists and a founding artist of the prestigious Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Glickman still composes, and for the last decade he's been transcribing works for the bassoon. For the last eight years the Glickman Ensemble has been playing together and recording those transcriptions, fulfilling their mission "to bring the beautiful, sonorous sounds of the bassoon to the public through our love of chamber music."
