About this Event
View map Edible wild plants are growing right at your feet, in city parks, as “weeds” in gardens and yards, even in abandoned parking lots. Join us for this special program with author and ethnobotanist Leda Meredith, and learn how to sustainably harvest and prepare these wild, seasonal ingredients. Starting with a walk through our Mundy Wildflower Garden, Leda will explain techniques for collecting wild plants in ways that are safe and beneficial to the ecosystems. After the plant walk, Leda will give an indoor presentation on the role of foraging in traditional cultures and how it may play a vital part in sustainable 21st century food systems. Signed copies of her books Northeast Foraging: 120 Wild and Flavorful Edibles from Beach Plums to Wineberries and the just-published The Forager’s Feast: How to Identify, Gather, and Prepare Wild Edibles will be available for purchase. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Walk will be held rain or shine.
