Join NYFOA Capital District Chapter in partnership with Albany Co.Dept. of Recreation at Lawson Lake Park on Saturday November 13th from 10 am to noon.

Avoiding Lyme and other tick-borne diseases requires avoiding a tick bite!

Join the New York State Integrated Pest Management Program's Joellen Lampman as she talks about the different ticks in our area and their biology, the diseases they carry, and how to protect yourself and others from being bitten. We’ll put together tick drags for monitoring tick activity and then head outside to perform a tick drag, then identify any ticks we find.

The presentation will be in the Lodge at Lawson Lake with outdoor activities on the grounds. Dress (in light colored clothing, if possible) for the weather conditions of the day to be comfortable on the outdoor segment. There is no formal admission fee, but donations are always welcome to cover the cost of our educational programs and refreshments. The program is open to all, but pre-registration by November 10 is encouraged. For questions, or to pre-register, contact Carol at happyinthehollow@gmail.com.

Joellen Lampman is Community IPM Extension Support Specialist with the New York State Integrated Pest Management Program at Cornell University, and is a lifelong environmental educator. In some circles she is also known as the tick lady.

Why not bring a lunch and enjoy the lake and surrounding trails after the program? In addition to hiking there is boating and fishing, but no swimming! With your newfound knowledge, we expect you will dodge any tick bites!
