Title:  Understanding the Glue that Binds Us All:  The Science & the Promise of the Future Electron Ion Collider (EIC)

Host:  Georg Hoffstaetter de Torquat

Abstract:  Deep inside every atomic nucleus lies a mystery: the “glue” that binds quarks into protons, neutrons, and nuclei, carrying the strongest force in nature. The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), to be built at Brookhaven in partnership with Jefferson Lab, will collide polarized electrons with protons and nuclei over a wide energy range, reusing key parts of RHIC. As the world’s first polarized electron-proton and electron-nucleus collider, it will probe how proton spin and mass arise and search for the novel gluonic state of matter. This talk will present the EIC’s science, status, and its promise for understanding visible matter.
